Bonnet‑Style Cloche, ca. 1926 – Black Synthetic Silk, Pleated Orange Brim & Floral Accent
Construction & Materials
This ca. 1926 bonnet‑style cloche is crafted in black synthetic silk over a buckram frame, with a pleated orange synthetic silk brim lining that adds contrast and depth. The sides feature soft folds, giving the hat its characteristic bonnet silhouette of the mid‑1920s.
A narrow black grosgrain ribbon band encircles the crown. On the right side, the ribbon is gathered beneath a red, purple, and persimmon flower, placed over the dangling ribbon ends — a classic decorative accent of late flapper‑era millinery. The original black lining remains intact.
Condition is very good, with only minimal age‑appropriate signs of wear. Decorative items shown in photographs are not included.
Historical Context & Fashion Significance
Around 1926, cloche hats evolved into more sculptural and bonnet‑inspired forms, often combining synthetic silks, buckram bases, and bold colour contrasts. This example reflects the transitional elegance of the period, when milliners experimented with new materials and refined silhouettes.
Its floral accent, pleated brim lining, and soft side folds make it an ideal piece for collectors of 1920s millinery, flapper fashion, and Art Deco accessories.
